Dwarf Powder Puff, Calliandra haematocephala ‘Nana’

Common names Dwarf Powderpuff Habitat and Distribution Calliandra is a genus of flowering plants in the pea family, Fabaceae, in the mimosoid clade of the subfamily Caesalpinioideae. It contains about 140 species that are native to tropical and subtropical regions of the Americas. Description This compact cultivar grows to only about 5 feet tall and similar spread. Red flowers a borne throughout the canopy in the warm months of the year. This selection stays compact and dense. In many ways it is superior in the genus "Calliandra" if a small shrub is needed. Cultivation & Culture This dwarf tree is very adaptable to a wide range of sunlight, soil, and moisture. Hearty to zone 9 or above. An easy, carefree showstopper with stunning everbearing powderpuff blooms! Comments and Curiosities Dwarf Powderpuff makes a fine hedge requiring less frequent pruning on average than the genus. Also makes an excellent container plant.
