
Licuala aurantiaca or Golden Palm:
Habitat and Distribution:
Endemic to South East Asia, specifically Borneo, Cambodia, Malaysia, Sumatra, Thaliand and Vietnam.
Description:
This beautiful palm has a robust clustering habit with short stems and palmate leaves with few segments. It grows up to 12 feet and has vividly orange colored leaf sheaths and stalks., which makes it a very desirable ornamental palm.
Culture:
Its natie habitat is a peat swamp forest and does best in a tropical or subtropical climate, needing plenty of water to grow.
Flower/Fruits:
It produces long hanging inflorescences and has orange red fruit.
Cold Hardiness:
10B and above
Comments:
Reports are coming in that this newly described palm is pretty tough. Palm collectors/lovers have attested to it being a great palm for indoors with reports of it being a steady grower.
