Calyptrocalyx albertisianus
Habitat and Distribution: Calyptrocalyx albertisianus is a medium sized, solitary palm, endemic to the lowland rainforest of New Guinea.
Description: The C. albertisianus has a lovely tan trunk with light, cream colored leaf scars and can attain heights of 15-18 feet when fully mature. New leaves emerge bright cherry red and last up to 2 weeks before fading to an orangish hue, which ultimately turns deep green.The inflorescence are small white flowers and fruits are bright red.
Cultivation & Culture: This palm thrives in very humid conditions, doing best in a partial shade position, sheltered from wind. The soil should be humus, well draining and kept moist. It is not recommended to let this palm dry out between waterings.
Comments: This highly ornamental, easy to cultivate, quick growing palm can be kept in a pot indoors or outdoors for many years.
