Cocos Plumosa Palm Tree
The Cocos plumosa palm, also known as the Queen Palm, is native to the tropical and subtropical regions of Brazil, Uruguay, Paraguay, and Argentina.
This palm is characterized by a distinctive smooth gray trunk, with a graceful, drooping canopy of soft and fluffy fronds. This fast growing and typically ornamental palm reaches about 30-50 feet in height. The trunk size can range from 6 to 20 inches in diameter. This tree boasts a glossy, plumose, green canopy, flowering white to gold and can grow a large inflorescence up to 2 m. long.
This palm thrives in well draining, acidic, and sandy soils. It is easy to grow in a wide variety of conditions and is popular in cultivation. Seeds are easy to germinate and can often be found carpeting the ground under mature trees. This hardy palm can withstand short periods of drought and frost.
The Cocos plumosa has recently been categorized to the Syagrus genus. It can produce edible yellow or orange fruit. This Queen Palm has earned its title. It is sure to make a statement in your landscape and is a favorite here at LGF!
