Licuala mattanensis “Mottled” Mapu
Licuala mattanensis is native to Southeast Asia, especially Malaysia and Borneo, where it grows in lowland tropical rainforest environments.
This is a compact dwarf fan palm with round, pleated leaves measuring 12-20 inches across. The “Mottled” form shows irregular light and green marbling across the leaf surface. Mature plants typically reach 3-6 feet tall with little to no visible trunk, and may produce small flower stalks and fruits.
This palm prefers high humidity, warm conditions, and about 50-80% shade. Maintain temperatures above 68°F for strong growth. Plant in rich, well-drained, slightly acidic soil and keep moisture consistent without letting it sit waterlogged. Suitable for USDA Zone 10b and warmer.
