Ptychosperma waitianum Palm Tree
Ptychosperma waitianum in native to the rainforest and coastal hills of Papa New Guinea.
This remarkable palm has solitary or clustering stems 1.2-3.0 cm. in diameter and grows to about 5m high. P. waitianum has Pinnate feather like leaves, and its new growth features a stunning dark red color.
As easy to grow as the other species in the genus, it thrives in tropical or subtropical conditions yet can survive in brief temperatures approaching freezing. This palm requires a shady position, well drained soil, and is water lover yet drought tolerant. Taller stems can also be removed to help maintain the height of the palm.
Ptychosperma waitianum can also make an excellent house plant as it is excellent in pots and is child and pet friendly!
