‘Sugar Loaf’ Mango Tree Professionally Grafted
In recent years, the Sugar Loaf Mango, formerly known as E-4, has experienced a significant surge in popularity. This mango originated as a seedling of the Edward variety in the breeding program conducted by Gary Zill in Boynton Beach, FL. It is a cross between Edward and Gary.
The Sugar Loaf Mango boasts a distinct tropical taste profile, characterized by prominent coconut and pineapple undertones, particularly emphasizing coconut flavors when fully matured. Harvested slightly under-ripe, it leans towards a more pronounced pineapple flavor. The fruit are medium-sized, with an obliquely oval shape, retaining its green hue during ripening. Renowned for its exceptionally creamy texture, the Sugar Loaf variety sets itself apart with its fiber-free flesh.
Fruit ripens midseason - between June/ July and will thrive in full sun and a wide variety of soils as long as drainage is excellent. Given their medium to large size, Sugar Loaf Mango trees are not ideally suited for container cultivation.
Sugar Loaf Mango trees are relatively low-maintenance, making them suitable for both experienced and novice gardeners alike. They have a tendency to flower early, potentially leading to faster fruit production. This trait could mean you’ll be able to enjoy mangoes from your tree sooner than later. If you enjoy tropical fruits with a delightful sweetness, the unique flavors of Sugar Loaf mangoes might appeal to you.
